A Word About Advanced
Diver Ratings
There seems to be a lot of interest
among many divers concerning "getting an Advanced rating"...
for a variety of reasons.
We'd like to go on record...
At The
Scuba Shack, we believe that an Advanced Diver
Certification should mean more than... "you paid
for the card." We believe that possession of an
Advanced Diver rating should mean that the diver posesses
advanced diving skills.
At The Shack, we require that Advanced divers
be thoroughly trained in at least 4 Individual Continuing
Education Specialty courses, (where each includes a complete
set of lessons - individual home study course with video, seperate classroom
session for each course, and a minimum of 2 open water training
dives per course.) Additionally, an Advanced diver should
have sufficient diving experience to be considered "advanced"...
We require a minimum of 24 certified/logged dives.
At The Scuba Shack, we're not interested in giving out "ratings
for dollars"... we're concerned with training safe,
confident, comfortable, happy divers who can handle the diving
situations they may encounter during their diving adventures.

Night Diving / Limited
Visibility Diving
Whether it's day or night, limited visibility can be an adventure.
Just because the visibility is limited doesn't mean the opportunities
are. Night diving is a natural extension of a diver's activities. The cost for this course is $120. ($80 Tuition, $40 Textbook, Video & Materials)
Boat Diving
Do you dream of exploring off-shore reefs and kelp beds,
inaccessible to the shore diver? If so, then boat diving
is the answer for you. Boats allow divers to explore spectacular
sites miles from the shore, sites that typically have clearer
water and a greater abundance of marine life. This course
covers boating safety and diving entries from boats. The cost for this course is $120. ($80 Tuition, $40 Textbook, Video & Materials)
Deep Diving
Deep diving opens the door to many different activities such
as Wreck Diving, Wall Diving, Underwater archaeology, and
the chance to see corals and marine life only found within
deeper waters. It requires intensive planning and preparation
which will be covered in this course. The cost for this course is $140. ($80 Tuition, $60 Textbook, Video & Materials)
Equipment Techniques
The use of high quality and properly maintained scuba equipment
enhances the enjoyment of diving and contributes to the safety
of the sport. When you master your scuba equipment you will
not only be able to help others with minor repairs but your
own diving career becomes a pleasurable experience as your
ability grows. The cost for this course is $120. ($80 Tuition, $40 Textbook, Video & Materials)
Underwater Navigation
Whether using a compass or natural landmarks, a Scuba diver
can learn to master the natural environment through skills
of navigation. The ability to navigate underwater enhances
the diving experience and the diver's safety and confidence. The cost for this course is $145. ($105 Tuition, $40 Textbook, Video & Materials)
Underwater Digital Photography
If you are looking for a new way to expand your diving adventures,
then underwater photography is for you. Increase your buoyancy
control and skill level, while capturing your memories on
film. The cost for this course is $120. ($80 Tuition, $40 Textbook, Video & Materials)
Underwater Search & Recovery
If you're a diver, search and recovery is inevitable. Whether
it's a friend dropping prescription sunglasses from his boat,
losing your fin in the surf or a chance to earn some spare
change looking for a bracelet, eventually you will need or
be asked to search for something underwater. To the diver
with search and recovery training, no object is lost underwater.
Provided the object isn't too deep, too big or in a hazardous
environment, it's not lost... it's just wet.
One of the most gratifying experiences in recreational diving
is setting out to find and recover a lost object - and succeeding.
In this Speciality class, you'll begin learning the skills
and techniques that can help you have that experience. The cost for this course is $100.
Wreck Diving
Wreck diving is a specialized area of scuba diving that can
be enjoyed by all divers, in all areas of the world. It offers
a new outlet for adventure and helps satisfy the diver's
natural curiosity by allowing a glimpse at our past. Discover
how fascinating wreck research can be, while learning how
to select the best wreck sites and equipment for your skill
level. Wreck diving will open up a whole new world, but only
if you are properly trained! The cost for this course is $120. ($80 Tuition, $40 Textbook, Video & Materials)
Stress and Rescue Diver
If you want to make diving more safe for you and your buddy
enroll in our Stress and Rescue class. This 4- session class
will help you to identify and prevent stressful situations.
It will also show you how to handle bad situations as well
as resolve them. Fees include classroom training, pool training,
open water checkout dives and training kit. The cost for this course is $285. ($225 Tuition, $60 Textbook, Video & Materials)
First Aid, CPR, AED & O2 Provider
Certification in all four of these specialties is offered at The Shack in one academic session lasting about 4-1/2 hours. The cost for this course is $95.
Spearfishing
Spearfishing is not for everyone although it is one of the
oldest reasons for diving. Spearfishing hones your diving
skills, makes you more aware of your surroundings, and more
appreciative of the underwater environment. Divers who take
up the sport of Spearfishing take great pride in their own
set of ethics which includes: safety first, shooting only
legal fish, and eating what they shoot.
The Scuba Shack offers a Spearfishing Speciality class along
with spearfishing trips tp Panama City, Florida. Divers interested
in learning more about this exciting sport can contact the
shop for more information. The cost for this course is $120. ($80 Tuition, $40 Textbook & Materials)
